August 2nd marked the third annual SHISEIDO Blue Project’s West Coast beach cleanup, where actress and activist Rosarioi Dawson hosted and participated in the community service initiative. The event took place at Huntington Beach, CA during the 2023 US Open of Surfing, and was created in partnership with WILDCOAST and World Surf League. The three organizations combined their passions for ocean conservation and sun safety behaviors into an opportunity for invited guests to improve the environment around them.
SHISEIDO invited influencers and media to the event to participate in the cleanup. Guests were excited to go home with SHISEIDO products and branded merchandise. They were also graced with a speech from Rosario Dawson, who’s most recognizable from her roles in “Rent,” “Sin City,” “Seven Pounds,” “Haunted Mansion,” and as the titular character in the latest “Star Wars” film, “Ahsoka”. The NAACP Award winning actress got her hands dirty and helped the crowd clean up the beach.
Founded in 2019, the SHISEIDO Blue Project was founded with the mission to improve and protect the Earth’s oceans. The brand has collaborated with World Surf League’s One Ocean to produce multiple global initiatives that enhance the state of our shores.
Dawson’s philanthropic efforts align well with the mission of the West Coast beach cleanup. founded the Rio Dawn foundation, which aims to address economic and social issues that are plaguing our planet by supporting organizations that share its values. Dawson’s participation in the latest documentary, Common Ground, furthers that mission by exposing the corruption that is hindering our food system. Her unwavering advocacy for conserving the environment for generations to come made her the perfect spokesperson for this event.
